The Delegation from the School of Humanities Visited French and German Universities

From June 19 to 24, 2023, Cai Wenjing, Vice Dean of the School of Humanities, and Li Juan, Liaison Officer of the Confucius Institute at Heidelberg University, visited French and German universities and had in-depth exchanges with them respectively.

The delegation first visited the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and met with Prof. André Charrak, Coordinator of the Relations with China, Prof. Pierre-Yves Quiviger, Head of the Department of Philosophy, Prof. Jocelyn Benoist and other faculty members. Both sides agree to sign an agreement on the double doctoral degree program, and discussed plans for student and faculty exchanges and bilateral workshops.

Then, the delegation paid a visit to Heidelberg University. They met with Dr. Petra Thiel, German Director of the Confucius Institute, and other faculty and staff from the institute. During the meeting, Dr. Petra Thiel introduced the structure and daily work of the Confucius Institute, and both sides conducted an in-depth discussion on further collaboration between the two institutions.





The delegation also visited the Center for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS) at Heidelberg University. They met with Prof. Barbara Mittler, a renowned sinologist and Director of CATS, and Dr. Dietlind Wünsche from the International Relations Office, and discussed how to further promote student exchange and faculty exchange programs.





Later, the delegation visited the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg and met with Prof. Jean-Baptiste Pettier, Director of the elite master’s program “Standards of Decision-Making Across Cultures”, Prof. Andrea Bréard, Head of the Department of Sinology, and Assistant Prof. Yuan Mingqing. Cai Wenjing introduced SJTU’s English master program “Modern Chinese studies” to the students, and both sides expressed that they would endeavor to promote the signing of the student exchange agreement and promote the faculty exchange as well.
