Manchester International Summer School

时间:2015年7月12日-7月31日

申请时间:2015年1月5日-4月13日

Manchester International Summer School (MISS) is a three-week residential course to be run from 12 to 31 July 2015.

Two hundred years ago the modern world began in Manchester. In this city, entrepreneurs and workers created the economic and political structures of modernity. Simultaneously, political thinkers, social reformers, artists and writers sought to understand the significance of those changes. What happened in Manchester between 1750 and 1850 changed the world.

Students will explore British culture and history, and discover contemporary Manchester and its region through a mixture of lectures, seminars, field trips and social activities. In the three weeks, you can choose the following themes or select a mix of units:

Arts and Architecture (From Romanticism to Modernism; From Cottonopolis to the Postindustrial City)

Class and Culture (The ‘Real’ Downton Abbey; Radical Manchester)

English Literature (The Brontes; Elizabeth Gaskell: Writing Manchester)

Northern Popular Culture (Worlds of Sport; The Beatles)
