The Third SJTU International Young Scholars Forum on Humanities


Introduction

Hosted by the School of Humanities, the SJTU International Young Scholars Forum on Humanities is designed for outstanding young scholars all over the world. It is our hope that, through key lectures, seminars and talent exchanges, a platform will be established for worldwide young scholars with excellent academic background in literature, history, philosophy and art to promote understanding and share insights, that the development strategy, discipline construction, scientific research and faculty policies of SJTU and the School of Humanities can be fully understood, and that young scholars will be motivated to achieve their aspirations at SJTU, boosting the development of Humanities. The first SJTU International Young Scholars Forum on Humanities was successfully held on May 18-19, 2019. The event attracted more than 100 young scholars to apply for participation, among whom 35 from home and abroad were finally invited to attend. The second International Young Scholars Forum on Humanities was successfully held on October 24, 2020, attracting more than 50 young scholars to apply for participation, among whom 22 from home and abroad were finally invited to attend. Both forums achieved expected results and remarkable outcome.

Morning: Opening Ceremony, Introduction to University Talent Policies

Afternoon: Keynote Speeches and Seminars

The second day:

Morning: Subject-based Trial Lectures, Interview on Talent Recruitment

Afternoon: Campus Visit, Closing Ceremony


Form

This forum will be held as the sub-forum of the SJTU International Young Scholars Forum. In accordance with the current epidemic prevention and control situations, the forum will be held online.


Selection Criteria

Applicants should be under 40 in general, with a doctoral degree awarded by world-class universities or institutions or a doctoral degree in first-class disciplines, or with post-doctoral research experience, or with recognized academic accomplishments or great potentials in humanities in worldwide universities or institutions.


Academic Fields

Four disciplines will be involved in this Forum, namely Chinese Language and Literature, History, Philosophy, and Art. The principal academic directions are as follows:

Chinese Language and Literature: Ancient Literature, Modern and Contemporary Literature, Literature and Art (including Literary Anthropology), Comparative Literature and World Literature, Folk Literature, Chinese Philology, Chinese Classical Philology; Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, including Psycholinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Linguistic Typology, Chinese Teaching and Training, etc.

History: Chinese History, World History, Archaeology and Museology, History of Science and Technology, Medical History.

Philosophy: Western Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Logic, Philosophy of Science, Marxist Philosophy.

Art: Musical Performance (Western Orchestras), Theatre Performance, Dance Performance.


Application

Application: Complete the online application form on the school website (http://shss.sjtu.edu.cn/Web/Apply) or the school WeChat account by 18 October 2021.

Invitation: All the applications will be reviewed by the departments (centers) in the school, and candidates will be assessed by the school academic committee. Applicants who pass the assessment will receive an official invitation letter through email by late October 2021.

Invited applicants are required to fill in a receipt within one week and confirm the participation.
