2018-05-25

On May 23, 2018, the SJTU International Students Fun Games began on the Zhengjiangu Sports Center on Xuhui Campus. The Fun Games, hosted by the School of Humanities and the Asia Youth Exchange Center and organized by the International Students Union (Xuhui) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (hereafter referred to asSJTU), has attracted 4 teams consisting of more than 40 international students from 10 countries.

With the motto of  “Friendship First, Competition Second”, highlighting the element of fun and sense of cooperation, the Fun Games set up five team-collaboration-related competition items including leg binding relay, caterpillar race, tug of war and etc., and adopted a point-based form of competition to enhance the spirit of collaboration among students. The Games were well-ordered and held under passionate atmosphere.

The Fun Games also set up special competition items with “Chinese distinctions” such as rolling hoops and throwing sandbags so that international students could learn more about China and experience Chinese traditional culture.

After all the five competition items were over, the referee announced on-site the list of winners based on scoring of points and awarded the honor certificate and prizes to the winning team.

“This is my first time rolling the hoops, which I’ve only seen on the television before. It’s amazing that today I can experience it myself. I hope that the college can hold such events more!” said HEUM KIM excitedly after the game, an international student from South Korea.

Naoto Baba, a Japanese student who was one of the main leaders-in-charge of the Fun Games, said that the Games aimed to encourage everyone to go outdoors during their spare time and invigorate and enrich the students’ campus cultural life. Through the games, Chinese and foreign students made interactions on the field and established deep friendship during cooperation and competition.
