The University invited Ding Yu, a teacher and calligraphy lover from Tongji University’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning, to introduce the history of Chinese calligraphy to participants and present them his own writing piece of “Diligence is the path to the mountain of knowledge, hard-working is the boat to the endless sea of learning” to encourage them to study hard.

Students participating in the activity were divided into 20 groups, each including a Chinese student and a foreign student. The two students painted with collaborated effort by blowing at the ink on the xuan paper. For some of them, it was the first time to paint in such a way and their work was creative with diversified content of plum, bamboo, coral and etc.

The organizer distributed each participant a postcard printed with his/her photo in advance. Chinese students and foreign students send exquisite postcards to each other and exchange contact information.

The funny activity ended smoothly at 3:30 p.m. Students from all over the world not only experienced the unique culture of a foreign country, but also harvested the hard-earned and precious friendship. Zhang Chengyun, a student from South Korea, said that this was the first time she attended this kind of exchange after she came to study at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During the exchange, she met many new friends and also developed stronger desire to learn Chinese and Chinese culture.
