A delegation from Showa Women's University in Japan visited the School of Humanities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) on March 2–3, 2026. The delegation comprised Ms. Tomoko Watanabe, Head of the International Studies Department; Prof. Borjigin Husel; Lecturer Zhang Ling; Ms. Satoko Fukai, Director of the International Exchange Center; and staff member Mr. Keita Sukegawa. The visitors were warmly received by SJTU School of Humanities leadership, including Qi Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities; Vice Deans of the School of Humanities Cai Wenjing and Wang Jun; Mo Xiaoling, Director of the International Office; Zhang Yihan, Deputy Director of the International Office; and Li Xiaoxuan, Admissions Officer.
On the morning of March 2, the delegation toured key student facilities including the Taoli Yuan international student dormitory on Xuhui Campus. In the afternoon, they held discussions with students to gain insights into academic and campus life experiences.
On the morning of March 3, the delegation visited the University History Museum at Minhang Campus, learning about SJTU's institutional heritage, development trajectory, and academic achievements. They subsequently held talks with SJTU's International Affairs Division leadership. Both sides explored deepening bilateral cooperation, specifically discussing expansion of student exchange programs and optimization of collaboration mechanisms. In the afternoon, the delegation participated in a specialized seminar with faculty from the School of Humanities' International Chinese Education Center. Discussions focused on joint academic initiatives including thesis supervision, scholarship establishment and evaluation, and collaborative talent development. The visit concluded with classroom observations of undergraduate Chinese language courses, allowing delegates to examine teaching methodologies, curriculum design, and program features firsthand.
This visit reinforced the collaborative foundation between the two institutions and established pathways for multifaceted future exchanges. Both universities committed to deepening their partnership through enhanced faculty-student mobility, academic cooperation, and joint talent cultivation initiatives. They aim to establish a model framework for high-quality Sino-Japanese higher education collaboration, jointly contributing expertise and resources to strengthen institutional friendship and advance educational and cultural exchanges between China and Japan.
