From October 27 to 31, a delegation from the School of Humanities, led by Qi Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities, visited the University of Szeged in Hungary and institutions in Greece, including the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens(hereinafter referred to as “University of Athens”), Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens, and the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos.”(hereinafter referred to as “Demokritos”) The delegation included Professor Chen Hao, Associate Professors Wen Yadi and Lin Minghao, and Zhang Yihan. The visit aimed to consolidate and expand academic collaboration and international engagement.


On October 27, the delegation met with Vice
President Márta Széll, Professor Sándor László Papp, and Associate Professor
Richárd Szántó from the University of Szeged. In opening remarks, Qi Hong and
Márta Széll reviewed previous cooperation and expressed shared confidence that
close collaboration would inject new vitality into humanities studies, while
strengthening China-Hungary cultural ties and contributing to global humanistic
dialogue.
Chen Hao outlined past and future collaborations, while Zhang Yihan presented
international cooperation projects. Discussions focused on joint research,
course development, academic mobility, and summer schools. A Memorandum of
Understanding was signed, followed by a campus and library tour.

On October 29, accompanied by Liu Weidong, Vice President of SJTU and Guo Liang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Sino-UK Low Carbon College, the delegation visited the University of Athens and Chinese School of Classical Studies at Athens. At the University, Vice President Sophia Papaioannou and Professor Platon Petridis welcomed the group. Liu Weidong and Sophia Papaioannou exchanged views on past achievements and future cooperation in joint research, course development, academic exchanges, Chinese language programs, and museum exhibitions.
At the Institute, Director Li Xinwei and Party Secretary Li Chuyu participated in discussions on co-organizing academic conferences and exhibitions, aiming to enhance mutual cultural understanding through collaborative projects.


On October 30, The China–Greece Joint Laboratory for Cultural Heritage, co-established by “Demokritos” and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was officially launched at the Demokritos Conference Centre in Athens.Participants included Lai Bo (Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Greece), Anastasios Gaitanis (Secretary-General for Research and Innovation of the Greek Ministry of Development), Maria Mertzani (Director-General of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture’s Directorate for the Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments), Liu Weidong, Qi Hong, Christos Markou (Director of the Institute of Nuclear & Particle Physics), and others. Qi Hong and Christos Markou jointly unveiled the laboratory. Over 50 guests from academic and cultural institutions attended. The ceremony was followed by a tour and discussion of ongoing projects.The lab reflects the deepening collaboration between China and Greece in cultural heritage, archaeology, and museum activities. It stands as a highlight of Sino-Hellenic academic and cultural exchanges.
The visit reinforced the School of Humanities’ international partnerships, advanced concrete cooperative projects, and contributed to the school’s strategic development and internationalization under the university’s broader framework.
