From 30 June to 13 July 2025, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) successfully hosted 2025 “Language Technology in Applied Linguistics”—SJTU International Summer School. Co-sponsored by the China Scholarship Council, SJTU’s Division of Global Cooperation and Exchange, Graduate School, and School of Humanities, the program attracted over 1,000 young students globally, with nearly 80 participants from more than 20 countries selected for intensive study.
Designed as SJTU’s interdisciplinary initiative blending humanities and technology, this year’s curriculum was rigorously developed through advance planning of content and pedagogical structure. The School of Humanities convened over 10 internationally renowned experts in applied linguistics—including Professor Nathan Hill (Trinity College Dublin), Professor Shu-Ling Wu (Southern Illinois University), and Associate Professor Qian Zhiying (Florida State University)—delivering 70+ hours of lectures and workshops. Participants gained hands-on experience with cutting-edge research methodologies such as EEG, eye-tracking systems, corpus analysis, large language models, structural equation models, qualitative analysis software NVIVO, and AI-based ancient script recognition, earning unanimous acclaim.
