“The Belt and Road” National Advanced Training Program on Cultural Exchanges Successfully Launched

On July 7, 2019, “The Belt and Road” National Advanced Training Program on Cultural Exchanges was launched by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the School of Humanities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on Xuhui Campus, SJTU. Rapipongs Banchong-Silpa, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate of Thailand in Shanghai, Li Ping, Deputy Director of International Affairs Division of SJTU, Qi Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities, and representatives from embassies, consulates, and universities of twelve Belt and Road Initiative countries attended the opening ceremony hosted by Gao Lei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities. 



Li Ping, on behalf of SJTU, delivered a welcome speech at the ceremony. She introduced the history and development of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as its internationalization strategy, and wished the advanced training program a complete success.

 


Rapipongs Banchong-Silpa stated that this advanced training program was perfectly in line with the needs of the current international situation and China’s development strategy. Moreover, as an important hub for connecting Southeast Asia with China, Thailand hoped to promote more cooperation and exchanges with China in the future.



Looi Wai Ling, a representative from Malaysia, shared his understanding of this program and expressed his expectation for it. 


 


Qi Hong also gave a speech and mentioned that this program came into being because of the Belt and Road Initiative. She hoped that by the end of this training program, every attendee would benefit from it and achieve a better understanding of Chinese culture and Shanghai culture. 



Initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Government, this program aims to promote cultural exchanges among the Belt and Road Initiative countries, strengthen their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and increase their recognition for Chinese Dream in a new era, China’s proposals and a community with a shared future for humanity. The program lasted for three weeks and was completed by the end of July, 2019.
