Delegation from the School of Humanities Visits Partner Institutions in Singapore and Malaysia

From June 22 to 26, a delegation from the School of Humanities, led by Dean Wu Jun and including Vice Deans Wang Yunxia and Zhang Yi, Head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature Zhang Quanzhi, and Director of the International Office Mo Xiaoling, traveled to Singapore and Malaysia for an exchange visit. The delegation visited the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Southern University College in Malaysia, and the Universiti Malaya (UM). In-depth discussions were held with each institution on scientific research collaboration, talent cultivation, and academic exchanges, resulting in multiple preliminary cooperation intentions and elevating the school's internationalization.


On June 22, the delegation began its visit at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the National University of Singapore. Sng Tuan Hwee, Vice Dean of the faculty, Ong Chang Woei, Head of the Department of Chinese, Wang Jinping, Head of the Department of History, and Tang Wenhong, Head of the Department of Philosophy, attended the meeting. Both sides discussed student exchanges, the recommendation of outstanding undergraduate students for graduate studies, and faculty and research cooperation, jointly outlining and refining the subsequent implementation path for cooperation. On the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Singapore Graduate Institute. Xu Min, Vice Dean of the institute, received them and provided a detailed introduction to the layout of scientific research cooperation and the progress of projects. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on the cross-disciplinary integration and collaborative innovation development of humanities and science and technology disciplines, jointly exploring paths for the integrated development of disciplines.




On June 23, the delegation visited the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Graham Matthews, Vice Dean of the school, Neil Murphy, Head Professor, and Yow Cheun Hoe, Head of the Department of Chinese, attended the meeting. Wu Jun introduced the disciplinary layout, scientific research platform construction, and internationalization achievements of the School of Humanities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The two sides reached a consensus on cooperation regarding faculty exchanges, joint academic forums, and student exchange programs. Neil Murphy stated that the two universities have long maintained close cooperative relationships and look forward to further deepening synergy and linkage between the two schools in the future.



On June 24, the delegation visited Southern University College in Malaysia. Wong Yit Gee, Vice President of the university, and Wong Yoon Wah, Dean of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, attended the meeting. During the exchange, Wu Jun delivered a special academic lecture titled "The Constructive Function of Literary History in Translation: A Discussion on Cases of Literary Translation in Modern China" to the teachers and students of the university. After the lecture, the delegation interacted fully with the teachers and students present, introducing in detail the school's long-term and short-term exchange programs in China and the admission policies for international master's and doctoral students. They sincerely invited teachers and students from the university to exchange and pursue further studies at the School of Humanities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.



On June 26, the delegation visited the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Malaya. Yanti Idaya Aspura binti Mohd. Khalid, Dean of the faculty, Danny Wong Tze Ken, Professor in the Department of History, and Ho Kee Chye, Head of the Department of Chinese, attended the meeting. Wu Jun reviewed the history of cooperation between the two faculties. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on faculty exchanges, joint academic forums, and student summer camps. They reached an agreement on broadening the scope of cooperation and enriching the forms of cooperation. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Department of Chinese and the Dream of the Red Chamber Research Center at the university and conducted in-depth exchanges with teachers and students.



This visit further consolidated the foundation of cooperation between the school and renowned universities in Singapore and Malaysia, effectively expanding the space for academic research and joint talent cultivation. The school will take this visit as an opportunity to accelerate the implementation and effectiveness of various cooperation projects, continuously build high-level international exchange platforms, and assist the high-quality development of discipline construction and internationalized education.
