We are pleased to announce the Fourth UK-China Marxist Aesthetic Forum to be held on 23 and 24 April 2014, at the University of Chester, UK.
Confirmed keynote speakers include Professor Neil Lazarus from Warrick University, UK and Professor Weiming Du from Beijing University and Harvard University.
The Forum on Marxist Aesthetics was established as a joint research venture by Manchester University and Shanghai Jiaotong University in April 2011. This annual forum has since been successfully held at Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2011, Manchester University in 2012, and Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2013 respectively. The last Forum at Shanghai Jiaotong University had over one hundred participants from leading universities around the world.
The University of Chester is honoured to host the Fourth UK-China Marxist Aesthetics Forum. The main theme of the 2014 forum will be Modern Traditions and there are five sub-topics for panel discussions:
1) Religion and Marxism
2) Cultural Identity through the Eyes of the Others
3) The Monetary Invention of Tradition
4) National Literature under Globalization
5) ‘Chinese Dreams’ or Western Utopia
There are over 30 Chinese scholars from leading Chinese universities attending the Forum. It will be a rare opportunity for scholars in China and the West to engage in in-depth and genuine dialogue around critical issues in literature and culture, to foster cultural and philosophical debate and to form long-term academic associations. The University of Chester is please to provide such a platform.
We will be looking forward to receiving proposals for papers and panels on the five sub-topics listed above from scholars around the world by Monday 18th November 2013.
