Recently, Manuel Pérez Garcia, the Spanish Associate Professor from the Department of History in the School of Humanities was invited to the CGTN show “The Point with Liu Xin”. During the show, he made some comments on present epidemic situation in Spain.
Dr. Garcia stated that the epidemic in Europe continued to spread and the situation in Spain was not optimistic. Madrid, Basque country, and Barcelona in Northern Spain were seriously affected by COVID-19, while the confirmed cases in Southern areas were also increasing. “For Spain and other European countries, what is more important now is to learn from China’s measures on epidemic prevention and control,” he added. He then mentioned that he followed the official news and messages from the Chinese government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As China had already made positive achievements in epidemic control, Spain and other European countries should send a delegation to China and ask for their advice to the sanitary personnel and policymakers.
Dr. Garcia further stated, “When the COVID-19 crisis ends, we should learn some lessons about our personal life and the way we interact with people such as our relatives, friends, and people we don’t know to appreciate more life and morals than material or superficial things. We should help each other more in a very altruistic way rather than concentrate on our own interests.” He also expressed his gratitude to the leaders and colleagues in the School of Humanities who had kept close contact with him and provided support for his life and work during this difficult time.
In the following days, the School of Humanities will continue to follow the global situation and provide help and support for our overseas faculty members and students. As COVID-19 unceasingly spreads across the globe, we can win this battle against the epidemic only if all mankind makes concerted efforts.
