GUAN Zeng-jianDistinguished Professor, History Department, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

        GUAN Zeng-jian, born in September, 1956, is now a professor and Supervisor of Doctoral Candidates of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He received his bachelor's degree at Northwestern Polytechnical Universityin 1982 and Ph. D. degree in history of science at University of Science and Technology of China in 1990. He was a professor and dean of School of History and Culture of Zhengzhou University from 1995 till 2000. Since he joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2000, he had been executive dean of School of Humanities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2003 to 2012. His research interests lies in history of physics, metrology and astronomy of China, and he has more than 100 publications, including the following books: Exploration of Physical Ideas in Ancient China(1991); Sketch of History of Science and Technology in Ancient China, Volume for Physics and Chemistry(1996, 1999, co-authored by MA Fang); A Short History of Metrology in Ancient China(2000); A Draft of the History of Modern and Contemporary Metrology in China (2005, co-authored by SUN Yi-lin and others),etc. He established the new branch of the history of metrology in China. The former president of Japan Society of Historical Metrology Shigeo Iwata considered him as “one of the two most outstanding scholars in the field of the history of metrology in China”. Besides, he also pays some attention to the educational function of the history of science and general education in university.
